What's In A Name

Something I've learned is many witches find a name as their Witch Name.  It's a form of both protection and expression.  I don't know if I posted about this in the past, and I'm in no mood to go explore, so bare with me.

I had a couple of names sticking with me.  One for a long time, but I'll soon explain why I didn't know if I wanted to answer its calling.  The other was Ginny.  It's kind of a play on my name, which would make it easy to closet.  Also, because of its closeness to my given name, it had the same definition as my name.  I lived with it for a couple weeks now.  I liked, it but it didn't make me happy or however I thought I should feel.

Then there's this--Harley.  I love this name.  And yes, it's because of one Ms. Harley Quinn.  I've always been drawn to her.  She's super smart but dangerous.  I don't know why I like her so much, but I do--enough to own many Harley items.
But that's just it--it's a character from a comic.  She's a mean dangerous, and that just isn't me.  I didn't want taking on that name to be lessened or littled because of my affection for Harley Quinn.  But, when I was looking up "witchy names," that name stuck out like a sore thumb.  SO I never quite shook the feeling.

I spoke with one of my nerdy/witchy friends about this.  She suggested even going with Harleen, Harley's name before she transformed.  It's kind of proper, which is good for officialness.

Well, after all that, I went meditate on it.  My meditation was, well, not anything yesterday, so I wanted to really try again.  I started as I always do.  I wrote the word "name" on a bay leaf, and by the flame of my Goddess candle, I burned it, and asked for guidance...

I won't go into details on my session after that, because I keep a private journal on such things and, let's face it, some things are meant to be personal.  But I will say that.....

I am a Pagan.  I am an eclectic witch.  I am an empath and healer.
My name is Harleen "Harley" Ahlah Lalaurie.

And I am proud of who I am.
